The river above the falls forms the very border between Sweden and Norway. In Tanumshede there is a very well-visited world heritage area and a petroglyph museum. Take a trip across the border to Norway and Halden for a visit to Fredriksten's fortress or why not to Strömstad, a city by the sea with a large selection of activities during the summer, rich restaurant life, pleasant shopping in small shops that are close to each other and do you feel like a salty, cooling dip in the summer heat, it's a short distance to the sea, rocks and swimming, feel free to take one of the bathing boats out to one of the islands in the Strömstad archipelago. From Strömstad, there is also a ferry to the Koster Islands, Sweden's westernmost islands with a resident population.
